People nowadays aren't feeling the isolation that was once felt because Facebook has become a major community itself! Much like the local community of the neighbourhood each of us lives in. Every Facebook member is localised to the same place, and therefore proximity is irrelevant.
In relation to IP and privacy, I think people forget that all information uploaded onto Facebook is consented. The applications within Facebook, such as checking-in, are not forced upon us, but rather we choose to interact with them. Openness on Facebook is still a choice, and I believe that by now everybody should (hopefully) understand that once something is on the internet you can never take it back. In reality, people should think twice before 'checking-in' at their kitchen.

I agree that Facebook is an excellent way for seeing how and who individuals interact with online, but I also feels that blogs do the same and are not just about straightforward content.
I have a blog, and feel that I have joined a digital community with people who have similar interests. I interact with others content and discuss and converse, just as people do on Facebook.
It has even become apparent to me that my interaction with Facebook has declined since starting a blog. I feel this is due to the way I can express myself on my blog. I find it gives me more ability and creativity then Facebook does; and seeing my content be viewed by people from all over the place is, to be frank, awesome!

This is a good post on outlining the differences that Facebook has compared to other forms of social media. On first glance from a new user Facebook may seem to be "another social website" but as you've pointed out - It's a whole lot more than that because it relies on each individual to make an effort with their socializing on the net. It requires them to still make an effort with their relationships with others (though this is easier than socializing in real life, which we need to remember.)

The fact that we can now work and attend school via the internet is amazing - something that should not be taken lightly. It does make you think though, should we be pushing away real life contact in favour of reliance on technology? I guess time will tell.

I really like at the start of this post how you bought up life pre-car. It reminds people that there has always been a time that some type of technology has NOT existed. Sometimes people take their electronics for granted.

The phrase, "global village" really speaks to people because that's exactly what is happening.

"What happens to copyright, privacy and Co.?
We use the ideas of other without worrying about copyright anymore, we expanded the way freedom of speech can be seen, is there even any censorship? Will all this change our ethics? It has definitely already changed our way of trust, openness, and sharing in non-privacy communities." - This is an issue that is becoming quite widespread in the world today, something that Facebook is adding to due to it's sometimes confusing privacy rules/tools.

Hallo Christian,
